Research Interests
Carbohydrates serve as the fundamental energy source for life processes on Earth, playing pivotal roles in a myriad of biological processes, including energy metabolism, signal transduction, immunological recognition, and membrane formation. Despite their significant physiological functions, the number of carbohydrate-based drugs utilized in clinical settings remains limited. The primary challenges in carbohydrate chemistry stem from the chemical inconvenience caused by the high density of OH groups and the difficulty of stereoselective glycosidic bond construction. We aim to devise innovative strategies for the selective modification of carbohydrates and the de novo synthesis of carbohydrate derivatives from non-sugar substrates. We are actively exploring potential therapeutic applications of these novel compounds.
